Radio Teesdale - It's Yours!
"Radio Teesdale - The Heart and Sound of Teesdale - Locally Yours"

The Undercurrent

Colin Robinson, presenter of the Wednesday night ‘Undercurrent’ show, which focuses on new indie music and local bands, spoke about Radio Teesdale’s Local Top Ten for 2009. ‘The final two shows of each year are always my favourites as that’s when we count down the chart. It’s a great chance to celebrate each year’s music from local bands and musicians and 2009 has definitely been the strongest yet. It’s brilliant to see Gin Soaked Boy, a band from right in the heart of Teesdale, at number one, especially with such strong competition this year. However, the band can be justifiably proud of the number one spot as we take the chart very seriously and the song was one a lot of people loved and it gained airplay not only on the Undercurrent but also on other programmes such as Teesdale Live, Drivetime and The Sunday Review.’

The number two song is a single from Middlesbrough band Be Quiet Shout Loud, who this year officially became a signed band. As well as releasing the single, they toured the uk and Germany. They played at a couple of music festivals too, including Middlesbrough Music Live ‘09 alongside bands like Ash. ‘A disco beat can save the world’ drew much praise from Undercurrent listeners which backed up their thoroughly deserved placing in the Local Top Ten. The chart also features The Conspirators from Bedale and Circuit 68 from Bishop Auckland, as well as bands from Teesside and Newcastle both signed and unsigned.

Colin closed by adding, ‘We’d love to hear from you if you are a local band or musician so get those demos sent in to the show and remember that the chart is created from listener feedback, so if you hear a band you like on the Undercurrent then contact us to be sure that your favourite is in with the best chance of making the 2010 chart.’
