As a way of working more closely with our local community and community organisations, Radio Teesdale has created innovative new approaches to extend the reach of its technology, accessibility and presence throughout the Dale. These are Radio Teesdale Satellite Stations.
Satellite Stations' defined
. An organisation that is interested in setting up a Hotspot may also be interested in setting up a Satellite Station, an extension of the Hotspot facilities creating a real studio environment for training, practice, interviewing and developing programmes for broadcast on Radio Teesdale.
As a community organisation you can become a Radio Teesdale Satellite Station by fulfilling the following:
1. Be connected to the internet via Broadband.
2. Have a room or space in a room that can be used as a studio.
3. Have one or two members of your organisation who are interested in managing the Satellite Station and another able to offer you technical support.
4. Buy studio equipment as required, i.e. mini disc recorders, microphones and headphones, CF cards and readers, editing software, computers, studio set up software, hardware and cabling. Budget £11,848 + vat per studio. Specific technical equipment requirements and estimated budgets available from Peter Dixon, Station Manager.
5. Additional budget may be needed for soundproofing as required per site.
6. Promote the Radio Hotspot through visible signage, via your website and through notices, message boards, newsletters.
7. Allow your members and/or local people access.
8. Agree to operate the Hotspot in accordance with governing broadcast regulations by ensuring that all active users are or become members of Radio Teesdale.
9. Add the equipment you have purchased to your insurance schedule.
10. Agree to operate the Hotspot in accordance with governing broadcast regulations.
Radio Teesdale will provide:
1. Contacts for suppliers of equipment and support securing quotations.
2. Supporting information about Radio Teesdale for funding applications as required.
3. Practical support for the Satellite Station during set up.
4. Ongoing support for the Satellite Station: people, technology, processes.
5. A range of informal group and one-to-one training sessions in radio production skills. These can be provided on an ongoing basis as agreed.
6. Practical reference guides for interviewing, recording sound, editing sound, radio programme production, using the studio and looking after equipment.
7. Support with appropriate marketing materials for promotion i.e. approved logos, content and images for use in your website, newsletters etc.
8. Promotion of the Satellite Station on air and via the station website.
9. Support, training and guidance for participants. Live broadcast your recordings on Radio Teesdale.
It is intended that the Radio Teesdale Satellite Stations will enable more local people and organisations to create anything from small sound samples to interviews and even whole programmes that can be sent electronically or taken physically to the Radio Station for final editing and broadcast.
They will enable Radio Teesdale Members greater local access for sound editing and programme production. They will enable your organisation to make Radio Teesdale part of what it offers locally and further develop community participation and engagement.
