Radio Teesdale License Extension

We are delighted to let you know that Ofcom, the broadcast regulators, has announced that that the community radio licence currently held by Radio Teesdale has been extended for a period of five years and will now expire in March 2017.

This means we have permission to broadcast until that time. This is tremendous news for the station and the people of Teesdale. It is a credit to the hundreds of people who play a part in the station's activities each year. As part of the decision making process Ofcom looked closely at the station's record of service delivery over the last five years compared to the key commitments set out in the license agreement, financial matters and the stations exemporary regulatory record. As well as providing a service to listeners and the community, Radio
Teesdale also provides the opportunity for volunteers to become actively involved in the running and development of the station, allowing them to learn and practice new skills.

The decision is fundamental to our ongoing development. However, it does not guarantee the continued survival of Radio Teesdale. Ofcom rules mean that we can only raise a maximum 50% of our income through sponsorship and advertising. Other sources such as public funding, grants and donations must cover at least 50% of our costs. Radio Teesdale is run on a shoestring, but needs to raise a total of �70k each year to operate in a way that enables us to meet our Ofcom commitments and provide the Teesdale community with this unique medium for communication, education and entertainment. . We think this provides fantastic value for money, but the funds have to be secured for us to continue to operate.
